27th April 2010 - Majority of adults do not have a Will, YouGov poll reveals.

Today Charities Aid Foundation published a poll revealing that nearly 60% of British adults have not written a Will and the number rises to 74% amongst co-habiting adults (www.cafonline.org/default.aspx?page=19104).

The BBC decided to feature the poll results in its radio current affairs programmes throughout the day.  Ashley Mirfin of Simply Wills was interviewed on Radio Five Live, Radio London and Radio Wales during the day.

In the interviews Ashley commented "... that the poll results were disappointing since with expert guidance making a Will is not traumatic, takes less than an hour and is not expensive especially when compared with the thousands of pounds it would cost the family of someone who died without leaving a valid Will".  He went on to say "... people fail to realised what will happen to their estates if they don't leave a Will  In almost all cases of married couples the assets will not go where the deceased would want and will cause untold problems for the family left behind.  Even worse the survivor of a co-habiting couple will inherit nothing!".

If you'd like to discuss making a will, or updating an existing will, Ashley Mirfin of Simply Wills will be happy to help.  He can be reached on 01908 866541 or via his website at www.simplywills.org.
