DYING MATTERS Awareness Week 12th May 2014

The organisation says research shows that millions of Britons are failing to make adequate plans for their death and don’t know the wishes of their loved one, making end of life plans remains a taboo for many people. Read the full article here.

On the Wills front Dying Matters reports that “only 36% of adults have written a will” despite the fact that “80% of the public believe all adults should be required to have a will to avoid disputes after they have died”.

The research also finds that given the choice “just 1 in 100 GPs and 6% of the public would choose to die in hospital, with home being by far the most favoured option”. Little do people realise that their wishes can be fulfilled by appointing others through a Lasting Power of Attorney to make such decisions on their behalf when and if they do not have the capacity to do so themselves.
